Today (Tuesday 21st) marks 2 months since we set foot in China on the first day of our travelling. It also marks 4 months since we said 'I do'. It is hard to say what has been more challenging! ;-)
On the contrary, having now spent just over half of our married lives on our honeymoon, things couldn't be any better.
Today also marked our last full day in Siem Reap, for tomorrow we head to Phnom Penh again on our way down to Vietnam.
Yesterday we finished our second day of temples, taking in, amongst others, Preah Kahn on the 'big circuit' and the mighty Angkor Wat. The latter is fantastically preserved and was being preserved as we visited. This huge temple's main draw for us were the intricate carvings depicting various Hindu (and Buddhist) stories on each of the four outer walls.
Today was our last day of temples in Cambodia (and probably for a few days - we need a break from them!). So after agreeing a price with Mr Sith (tuk-tuk driver) for the day, we spent an hour driving to reach our first destination Banteay Srei, or the Lady Temple as its affectionately known, as the carvings are very fine and it's believed that only women could have carved them. Plus, the stone is apparently pink in certain lights... apparently! A further 15 minutes up the road, we started a 1.5km hike to Kbal Spean, which is essentially a river bed with a 1000 lingas carved in to it. Also up the hill were a few other random carvings of Vishnu and Brahma (not the beer, the Hindu god) on various rocks, a beautiful waterfall and hundreds of butterflies. This was a highlight for both of us as it wasn't the usual temple visit and there weren't the crowds that we've grown accustomed to expect now. More importantly, there isn't likely to be anything else like this in the world.
So you can see from this, and our other blog posts, that the last 4 months of marriage have not been too much of a challenge!
