Hello Hong Kong

We weren't sad to say good bye to our last over night train, as we departed at the border to Hong Kong. The group went through China mainland customs then Hong Kong customs. Being British we were granted with the pleasure of being allowed to stay for 180 days, however our Chinese guide had to go through all sorts of paper work just to get in with us and the Aussies and Americans get half as long to stay!

Anyway we arrived at our final hotel with the group and needless to say Hong Kong is very different from mainland China. The people are bigger, taller and more polished, every sign and menu is also in English and the air just feels cleaner despite still being in a huge metropolis. Oh, and when the green man flashes you're not risking your life to cross the road!

On our first day we went around every market under the baking 30degree sun, the sports market, electronics, jade, ladies, goldfish! And flower market. Then we made our way down to the waterfront for our first glimpse of the amazing HK skyline. We walked along the avenue of stars (HKs equivalent to Hollywood - its pretty poor) and then watched the 'symphony of lights' show, where all the big buildings on the sky line flash lights and beams along to 80s film type music. Finally we ended up at yet another market, the night market where we had our final meal (literally on little stools and tables on the market street) and said our goodbyes to the group.
