Our eight hour journey from the islands to our new home Hua Hin on the mainland was fairly smooth. We took a boat then a freezing air conditioned coach. Mum and Dad got prime spot on the upper deck at the front where they got to truly appreciate the manic coach driving along the Thai motorway.
We eventually arrived only an hour or so late and checked in to our smart but simple hotel. First impressions - its looks a bit like Spain.
For dinner we strolled down to the piers and the Carnivores had a seafood feast. There are soooo many Chinese tourists here and as we went through the markets it actually felt like we'd gone from Thailand to Spain and back to China in a day.
Today, we've been getting to know Hua Hin better. It was Thailand's first beach resort so is still popular with Thais over Westerners, which is nice. We did some train spotting at its famous fancy station then went up Monkey Mountain. As you can guess we found hoards of monkeys up there ready to steal your ice cream. There were also some much friendlier monks at the temple offering blessings and accepting gifts.
After a little beach (where horse riding with the cow boys is on offer) and pool time we will head to the night market for dinner.
Happy in Hua Hin!
