We arrived in Mui Ne, a laid back beach resort, to what a local described as 'super rain'. So any beach plans we had were quickly scuppered. Mui Ne is around five hours north of Saigon on Vietnams incredible coast line and it has a surfer vibe to it, kite surfing here is very popular.
The next day we woke to sunshine thankfully and so we did what we'd come here to do...sand sledding. A beat up old jeep took us on a tour of the area. Passed the fishing village, stopping for a stroll through 'fairy stream' (a very shallow river that runs red due to the surrounding dunes) and finally to our destination the white then the red sand dunes. Where you can rent a piece of plastic from the kids and then slide down the dunes. Its as much fun as it sounds especially if you enjoy the feeling of being caked in sand.
It was time to move on after two nights in Mui Ne so we were back in the bus. The journey showed us some amazing scenes including a green sunlight and a cloud so low and thick, you could see the lightening lighting it up. Anyway another five hours up the coast we arrived at Nha Trang and its 6km of beach. This resort is on a lot of travellers maps so is much busier and is a beach resort but with a city built around it, bit like Bournemouth. We came here though for the party atmosphere and floating bars. So today we've been out all day on the funky monkey boat tour. Thanks to a wedding present from the Wynne-Willsons. The boat tour went like this, 8.30 pick up, onto boat with a range of nationalities (Vietnamese, Swiss, Chinese, Spanish and English of course) visit to the aquarium in the sea, snorkelling around island, dancing to the funky monkey boy band, lunch, singing with the funky monkey boy band, drinking rum and orange shots at the floating bar and a chill on the beach where Dan had a wee in the shack you can see in the photo.
The floating bar was so much fun, we all sat in rubber rings in the middle of the ocean and had our shots filled up by a dude in a slightly bigger floating ring.
So it's 4pm here, we're back on land and the hangover is starting to kick in...so best go drink another jar before it gets the better of me.
